One of the most decorated players in Sioux hockey history, Karl Goehring
joins UND's coaching staff as a volunteer coach in 2010-11.
Goehring spent last season, his first in the coaching ranks,
as an assistant coach with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch, with whom he had set franchise records for wins (78) games played by
a goalie (176).
Goehring's eight-year professional playing career was spent primarily in the AHL but also included
brief stops in the ECHL and in Finland.
A two-time All-American at UND, Goehring played for the Sioux from 1997 to
2001 and guided the team to an NCAA championship in 2000 and a runner-up showing in 2001. He graduated in 2001 as the program's
all-time leader in virtually every goaltending category, and remains the UND record holder in wins (80), winning percentage
(.765) and shutouts (15).
Goehring was also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and was the WCHA Student-Athlete
of the Year in 2000-01.
Goehring and his wife, Laura, have two daughters: Halle (6) and Lily
(4). |
