We are a diehard Fighting Sioux family.  This page is designed to let you get to know who the Orwicks are.

Dee and I have been season hockey tickets holders since 1990.  We began taking our children, Aaron, Kyle, Nathan and Aletha to hockey games in the eighties as they were born.  You can never be to young to become a Sioux hockey fan!

We are members of the Fighting Sioux Club and recommend that if you are not a current member you consider joining the team behind the teams.  You will find a link to their website on our home page.

Although we live 50 miles from Grand Forks, we can proudly say that we have never missed a game as a result of bad weather.  Some call that insane, we call it dedication!  We have traveled to every WCHA arena, expect Alaska Anchorage, to watch the Fighting Sioux represent UND and all of North Dakota.  They have always made up proud.

Aaron is a graduate of UND and also received his MBA there in December 2005 our daughter-in law Lisa is a 2006 graduate of UND and both work in the Twin Cities, Kyle is a 2008 graduate of UND and our daughter-in-law Vanessa graduated from UND in 2008 and received her Masters their in 2009, Nate and Aletha are current students at UND bringing the total of four Orwick children and two great daughter-in-laws who have been educated at this the home of the Fighting Sioux.

Our family's most memorable Fighting Sioux hockey moments:

Allen - Watching on TV as the Cary Eades, Jim Archibald and the boys went into the Badger's bench and stands to settle the score with the Wisconsin players and fans in the famous "Water Bottle Game" on January 30, 1982, in Dane County Coliseum.  I have since received a DVD of that game from Cary Eades and it is awesome to relive the "Glory Days:!

Dee - Our first road trip which was to Colorado Springs.  We left in a North Dakota blizzard and traveled to CC with the Narums, our good friends and NDSU Bison fans.  We met up with my Colorado cousins, Karen and Kari to cheer on the Fighting Sioux.  Although the Sioux were swept by CC, the after game festivities could not have been topped by any victorious Tiger fans!

Aaron - Watching UND winning the Championship in '87 since I have watched that game about 100 times.

Lisa - During the 2007-08 season we were at the Minnesota game in Minneapolis and on Saturday night in the standing room only section.  Aletha and I spotted some seats down below and worked our way down close to ice level.  As the game ended a fight broke out right in front of us, carrying into the postgame handshake.

Kyle - As a little kid sitting in the "Old Ralph" among the Gopher faithful.  The Gophers were kicking the Sioux and the Minnesota fans were giving my older brother, Aaron and me, the business.  The Sioux rallied and beat the dreaded Gophs in the third period.  It was really sweet to give dish out what we had been taking all night!

Vanessa -

Nathan - Celebrating "To the cup!" after the Sioux won the MacNaughton Cup in 2004 with Mom, Dad, Aletha, Jerry, Jeff, Lisa and Lindsay at Lola's.

Aletha - Watching the Sioux play hockey with screaming cousin Lindsay and my "vocal" Aunt Lisa.

"May the logo and the Fighting Sioux name live on forever!"

Ralph Engelstad - October 5, 2001

It is great sadness that this statement will not hold true!
Our family will ALWAYS BE FIGHTING SIOUX!!

"You can take away the name but you can't take away the spirit"

Allen Orwick - September 12, 2010
