Before UND: Spent the 2009-10 with Spruce Grove of the AJHL and led the Saints to an Enerflex Cup championship ... Also helped lead the Saints to the Dave Duchak Trophy as AJHL regular season champions with a remarkable 52-4-1-3 record ... Named AJHL Rookie of the Year and a unanimous selection to the AJHL North Division All-Rookie Team ... Participated in the 2010 AJHL All-Star Game and had three assists ... Scored 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) in 58 regular season games and tied for the team lead with 10 power-play goals ... Ranked second among all AJHL defensemen in PPG ... Added six assists in 16 playoff games ... Had been named one of Inside College Hockey's Nine Newsmakers for 2010 ... Spent the 2008-09 season with Southside Athletic Club Midget AAA program in Edmonton.

Personal: Majoring in entrepreneurship ... Son of Craig and Christine Simpson ... Father played at Michigan State (1983-85), spent 10 years in the NHL with Pittsburgh, Edmonton and Buffalo, won two Stanley Cups with the Oilers (1990, 1988) and is now the lead analyst on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada ...
